Art out of War

ceramic cups made by Ehren ToolPicked up this postcard at a café in NE Portland the other day… Just now focusing in on its message, I notice it’s an announcement for a show at the Eutectic Gallery, an art gallery in northeast Portland (1930 NE Oregon Street, with the entrance on 20th) specializing in contemporary ceramics. From October 4th through November 24th, Eutectic is featuring an exhibit titled “Art out of War,” featuring the work of four combat veterans, Jesse Albrecht, Ehren Tool, Thomas Orr and Daniel Donovan. The four were brought together by a unique residency at the LH Project in Joseph, Oregon. “Art out of War” explores their stories, told through the common thread of clay. The exhibit will span two First Friday receptions—one on October 4th and another on November 1st; in addition, Eutectic Gallery will host a special Veterans Day event on November 11th. All events begin at 6pm. Something tells me this exhibit is well worth seeing. Read the artist’s statements and see a few preview photos at the Eutectic Gallery website.
